CXAR Series of Switching Systems

The CXAR Series are computer-controlled coaxial switching systems for 50 or 75 ohm RF Signals up to 2.5 GHz, or low leakage signals down to 100 femtoamps. These systems are typically used to configure 1xN multiplexers. Mainframes  hold a variety of different switch modules to form the desired configuration. All systems are available with Ethernet LAN, IEEE488 (GPIB), & RS232 (standard) and USB (optional) control. Pushbutton Manual Control is available on CXAR/16 and CXAR/32 Mainframes. Keypad or Pushwheel Manual Control is available for systems larger that 32 switchpoints. CP8  Display/Driver Modules are required for switch modules installed in  CXAR/128 Mainframes and CP16 Display/Driver Modules are required for CXAR/256 Mainframes. These are included in the price.

CXAR/16-MF

CXAR/128-MF

These Chassis control up to sixteen 8×1 modules, thirty two 4×1 modules or any combination or configuration of 8×1’s, 4×1’s, 2×1’s and 2×2 modules. CXAR/256-MF

This Chassis is intended to control up to eight 16×1 solid state 75 ohm cable TV modules, or may be used to control a great number of 8×1, 4×1, 2×1 or 2×2 modules. It is often used to control a large variety of custom configurations which may be located in separate chassis. When used as a separate driver chassis it can control up to 256 switch points from a 4 to 6 RU chassis. LEDs on the front panel show switch and power status. Add Switch Modules to complete the system. Keypad Manual manual control with LCD display is optional.

CXAR Custom Chassis

Cytec has a complete metal fabrication shop and a laser etching machine so we can build custom systems with very low NRE. Module arrangement, custom labeling, custom configurations are done fairly easily and nearly 50% of the systems we build are not shown in our standard product line. Don’t see what you need? CXAR Expansion Chassis

All CXAR Chassis are available as Expansion Chassis for use with a MESA Control Chassis. This design allows configuration of large or complex systems with one point of control. Using a Mesa Controller and multiple Expansion Chassis has the following advantages:

  • Cost Savings: Expansion Chassis do not need power supplies or their own Control Modules or Manual Controls, which adds up to cost savings that pay for the Mesa on any system requiring three or more expansion chassis.
  • Single Point of Control: You can control up to 16 CXAR Chassis, or combinations of different chassis, from a single Mesa Control. This allows control of up to 16 chassis from a single GPIB address, RS232 Port or LAN IP address.
  • Remote Location of Multiple Chassis: Expansion Chassis can be located up to 50′ from the Mesa, so the switching chassis can be located where needed and still not require a separate control.
  • Complex Test Systems: Since any Cytec chassis may be controlled from the Mesa, you can build complicated systems switching a number of different signal types using different Cytec products for each signal type.

CXR Reed Relay Modules

These switch modules use high reliability reed relays for applications below 150 MHz. Fast, inexpensive reed relays are perfect for coaxial switching at lower frequencies. Switch times of 1 ms and life expectancy of 100 million operations. BNC connectors.

CXR/2×1-1S or 2S Switch Modules

have an A, a B and an Off state.
Both relays may be on at once.
Single pole modules ground the outer conductor of the BNC.
Two pole modules switch the isolated outer conductor.
50 ohm Bandpass of DC to 300 MHz. Isolation of -50 dB to 80 MHz.
Switched Power = 10 Watts
BNC 50 or 75 ohm connectors.

CXR/2×1-2C Switch Modules

have a two pole 2×1, Form C configuration as shown which allow one input to be switched to two outputs (A or B). Available with Isolated BNC or Twin BNC connectors, and uses Type A, armature relays. This module defaults to a normally closed position when off. Bandpass of 200 MHz (differential into 100 ohms).

CXR/8×1-1S or CXR/4×1-1S Switch Modules

have an 8×1 or 4×1 configuration with default off state.
Single pole modules ground the outer conductor of the BNC either isolated or grounded.
Any or all relays may be on at the same time.
50 ohm Bandpass of DC to 150 MHz. Isolation of -50 dB to 80 MHz.
Switched Power = 10 Watts
BNC 50 or 75 ohm connectors.
100 Million cycle relay life.

CXR/8×1-1T or CXR/4×1-1T Switch Modules

have an 8×1 or 4×1 configuration with default off state. All unused ports in the x8 direction are terminated to 50, 75 or user specified ohms value.
Single pole modules ground or isolate the outer conductor of the BNC.
50 ohm Bandpass of DC to 150 MHz. Isolation of -60 dB to 80 MHz.
Switched Power = 2 Watts

CXR/8×1-HT or CXR/4×1-HT Switch Modules

have an 8×1 or 4×1 configuration with default off state. All unused ports in the x8 direction are terminated to 50 or 75 ohms. An additional relay provides high isolation.
Single pole modules ground the outer conductor of the BNC.
50 ohm Bandpass of DC to 150 MHz. Isolation of -70 dB to 80 MHz.
Switched Power = 2 Watts
BNC connectors.
100 Million cycle relay life.
2 ms switch times.

CXG DC to 2.5 GHz Tree Switch Modules

These switch modules use RF relays in a stubless tree switch configuration to provide 50 or 75 ohm impedance modules. 50 ohm modules are available with SMA or BNC connectors. 75 ohm modules are available with BNC or F connectors ( some modules).

  • G Modules are unterminated(reflective)
  • GT Modules are terminated(absorptive).

CXG 50 DC to 2.5 GHz Tree Switch 2x1 Modules, unterminated (Reflective)

CXR/2×1-G Modules have a Normally Closed (NC = A = OFF) and Normally Open (NO = B = ON) Position.
50 ohm Bandpass of DC to 2.5 GHz. Isolation of -60 dB to 900 MHz.
75 ohm Bandpass of DC to 1.3 GHz. Isolation of -60 dB to 800 MHz.

CXG DC to 2.5 GHz Terminated (Absorptive) Tree Switch 2x1 Modules

These switch modules use RF relays in a stubless tree switch configuration to provide 50 or 75 ohm impedance modules. 50 ohm modules are available with SMA or BNC connectors. 75 ohm modules are available with BNC or F connectors ( some modules).

CXR/2×1-GT Modules have terminations on the x2 connectors which termiate any unused channels. This module has an OFF position.

CXG DC to 2.5 GHz Tree Switch 2x2 Modules often referred to as Transfer Switches or Baseball switches

These switch modules use RF relays in a stubless tree switch configuration to provide 50 or 75 ohm impedance. 50 ohm modules are available with SMA or BNC connectors.  75 ohm modules have BNC connectors only.

CXR/2×2-G Modules Often referred to as Transfer or baseball switches.
They have a Normally Closed (NC = A-B, C-D = OFF) and Normally Open (NO = A-C, B-D = ON) Position.
50 ohm Bandpass of DC to 1.5 GHz. Isolation of -60 dB to 900 MHz.

CXS 50 ohm RF or 75 ohm CATV Solid State Switch Modules

These switch modules use high reliability solid state switches for 50 or 75 ohm applications between 10 KHz and 2.75 GHz. Fast, inexpensive solid state relays are perfect for coaxial switching at low power RF and CATV frequencies. Switch times as fast as 25 us and life expectancy of 100 billion operations. Terminated to 50 or 75 ohms in both directions for use with splitters in either direction.

CXS/8×1-GT-75-F or BNC switch modules

have a 75 ohm termination in both directions for use with splitter outputs and low crosstalk.
Insertion loss of – 3 dB at 1 GHz, -6 dB @ 2 GHz.
Insertion loss flatness of 1 dB between 100 and 1000 MHz.

CXR Low Leakage Modules for measuring high resistance or low currents

These switch modules use ultra high isolation reed relays. They allow measurements of resistances as high as 500 Tera-ohms or current readings as low as 50 femto amps. Withstand voltage rating of 1500 Vdc and options for Triax connectors for faster driven guard measurements. Not intended for frequencies above 50 MHz or switched currents over 0.5 amps. CXR/8×1-LL Single pole low leakage switch modules

in a 1×4 or 1×8 configuration.
Breakdown Voltage of 1500 VDC.
Measurements in the range of 50 Teraohms or 500 Femto amps with standard BNC or SBJ connectors.
Measurements in the range of 500 Teraohms or 50 Femto amps with Triax connectors and driven guards.
Driven Guard circuits also reduce measurement times.

CXR/4×2-LL switch modules

allow you to build x2 matrix configurations for measuring between any two points.
Breakdown Voltage of 1500 VDC.
Measurements in the range of 50 Teraohms or 500 Femto amps with standard BNC or SBJ connectors.
Measurements in the range of 500 Teraohms or 50 Femto amps with Triax connectors and driven guards.
Driven Guard circuits also reduce measurement times.

CXR Balanced Line 2 pole modules

These switch modules use 100 ohm differential pair impedance two pole relays and strip lines for switching of balanced lines and differential digital or analog signals. BNC connectors switching center conductor and outer concentric or Twin-ax / Twin BNC connectors switching inner conductors with outer concentric used as a grounded shield. Screw terminal connectors are also available for ease of wiring twisted pairs. Bi-directional mechanical armature relays with very good Low Thermal qualities make this module useful for gauge measurements or very low voltage measurements down to 5 uV.
