CXM Series - Microwave and RF Switching Systems and Drivers

CXM Series -- this series is typically used for frequencies from DC to 40 GMHz. We use microwave relays, splitters, programmable attenuators and many other microwave components from the worlds most popular vendors to build standard or custom systems to your specifications. There are a large variety of 1x2 through 1x12 microwave relays available in Normally Open, Failsafe, Latching, Terminated or special configurations to suit your needs. Or simply buy the driver chassis and use it to control your own components. Since Cytec doesn"t build microwave components we can put the systems together with whatever parts you prefer and stand behind the warranty for you.

These Chassis controls up to 4 8x1 modules, 8 4x1 modules or mixtures of 8x1"s, 4x1"s, 2x1"s and 2x2 modules in any combination or configuration for up to 32 relay drives. LEDs on the front panel show switch and power status. Add Switch Modules and a Control Module to complete the system or simply buy the chassis wired out to D connectors to control your own relays. A pushbutton manual control is optional.

Or control mixtures of 8x1"s, 4x1"s, 2x1"s and 2x2 modules in any combination or configuration for up to 256 relay drives. LEDs on the front panel show switch and power status. CXM DC to 40 GHz Microwave Relays

Cytec can offer hundreds of different microwave relays from multiple vendors. Standard relays are DC to 18 GHz with SMA connectors but options include:

  • 1x2 through 1x12 single relays

CXM/2x1 Relays

CXM/2x1-F-SMA Microwave Relays have a Normally Closed (NC = OFF) and Normally Open (NO = ON) Position.
Specifications
Bandpass DC to 18 GHz
Insertion Loss 0.3 dB @1 GHz, 0.8 dB @ 18 GHz
VSWR 1.2:1 @ 1 GHz, 1.5:1 @ 18 GHz
Isolation -80 dB @ 1 GHz, -60 dB @ 18 GHz

Options:

  • Terminations in x2 direction.
  • Latching or pulse latching
  • 26.5 or 40 GHz extended bandpass
  • Hi Isolation
  • High power N connectors

Failsafe (F) or Normally Closed 2x1 relays (NC) require one drive per relay. Latching (-L) and Terminated (-T) 2x1 relays require two drives per relay. Keep this in mind when configuring systems based on the number of drives per chassis.


CXM/2x2 Microwave Relays (Transfer or Baseball Switches)

CXM/2x2-F-SMA Microwave Relays have a Normally Closed (NC = OFF) and Normally Open (NO = ON) Position as shown in the drawing on the left. They can also be used as a terminated 2x1 relay. Usefull for swapping signals between devices, reversing signal flow or interfacing to larger configurations.

CXM/3x1 to 12x1-NO-SMA Microwave Relays are Normally Open (NO) in the OFF state. Only one port can be on at a time. Larger configurations can be built by connecting the common port of multiple relays to another relay in series.

CXM/3x1 to CXM/10x1 Terminated Microwave Relays (SP3T to SP10T)

CXM/3x1 to 10x1-NO-T-SMA Microwave Relays are Normally Open (NO) in the OFF state. Only one port can be on at a time. Larger configurations can be built by connecting the common port of multiple relays to another relay in series. These relays are terminated to 50 ohms at each port except the common when in the off state.


Terminated relays are used for multiple purposes. The main purpose is for systems that require the output of the device connected to the relay be terminated in 50 ohms to maintain charactoristic impedance, such as splitters. Sometimes it is simply a good pratice to terminate the device to protect the output such as certain op amps. The other major reason is to provide slightly better isolation between ports since terminations take the signal to ground rather than act as an unterminated stub.

CXM/4x2 Microwave Modules

CXM/4x2-T-L-2.92 Microwave Modules are used in Modular CXM chassis to build matrix configurations with extremely good specifications. The system uses latching, terminated and hi isolation relays rated to 5 million cycles for ultimate performance and reliability.
